When AI Models Forget Reality
An interesting conversation with a young founder

Last week, I had an interesting conversation with a young founder who was preparing to launch his first serious AI product.
The product was a Contract Intelligence Model — designed to read legal agreements, summarize obligations, and flag risky clauses such as indemnity exposure, termination triggers, or compliance gaps.
For companies without large legal teams, the promise was powerful.
Instead of spending hours reviewing dense contracts, the system could produce a structured summary in minutes.
The demo was impressive.
Speedy.
Sharp.
Full of potential.
But instead of asking about valuation or growth plans, I asked if I could put on my AI risk hat for a moment.
Before getting to those questions, I shared a story that once changed the way I look at simple innovations.
for example, A soap seemed like one of the most ordinary products in the world. Yet scientists explain that when soap meets water, it forms molecules that attach to the oily outer layer surrounding many viruses and bacteria and break it apart. Once that layer breaks, the virus cannot survive or spread.
Something simple becomes powerful because it neutralizes invisible threats.
Because in many ways, AI systems also need their own version of soap — invisible safeguards that stop risks before they spread.
So instead of asking about benchmarks or performance scores, I asked the founder a different set of questions — questions every AI builder may eventually need to answer.
1. Accuracy Risk – What happens when the model is wrong?
If an AI system misses a hidden liability clause or misinterprets a contractual obligation, the impact can be significant.
Not technical.
Financial.
Possibly legal.
AI systems influencing contractual decisions may increasingly fall under high-risk AI classifications in emerging regulatory thinking, including frameworks being shaped globally such as the direction of the European Union AI regulatory architecture.
One practical safeguard is confidence scoring combined with human-in-the-loop validation.
Several legal technology platforms, including Ironclad, use AI to accelerate analysis while ensuring final legal judgment remains with human experts.
Speed with supervision builds trust.
2. Data Risk – Where did the training data come from?
Contracts are not ordinary documents. They contain negotiation strategies, confidential terms, and proprietary structures. If training data is poorly governed, future disputes around copyright or consent can arise.
Responsible systems increasingly maintain clear data lineage records — documenting where training inputs originate.
Enterprise deployments by companies such as Microsoft emphasize strict customer data isolation so enterprise data is never used to train public models.
In AI, trust begins long before the first customer signs up.
It begins with how the system learned.
3. Architecture Risk – Can client data influence another client’s answer?
This is known as cross-tenant data leakage.
In systems handling legal or financial information, even a theoretical possibility can erode credibility.
Enterprise AI platforms are increasingly designed with strong isolation controls aligned with standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2 governance frameworks.
Organizations like Anthropic have emphasized safety-first architecture and strict separation in enterprise deployments.
Trust becomes a competitive advantage.
4. Security Risk – Can someone manipulate the model?
AI systems reading documents can sometimes be manipulated through prompt injection or hidden instructions embedded inside files.
A malicious clause could attempt to override system instructions or expose internal prompts.
Responsible developers now conduct red-team testing and adversarial simulations before releasing models publicly.
Just as cybersecurity evolved through proactive testing, AI systems are beginning to follow the same path.
The founder friend had to delay the launch now and revisit some of these and agreed the importance of these points, Also i was impressed with his and the team work as some of it, he had already considerd and had factored as enhancements.
Early AI builders often compete on intelligence. But sustainable AI requires something deeper.
In biology, survival depends not just on strength but on immunity. In companies, resilience depends not just on strategy but on people and its implications.
And in artificial intelligence, long-term success depends not just on capability — but on governance.
Because every AI system has two architectures:
The model architecture, and the trust architecture.
Innovation builds capability.
Governance builds longevity.
And in the coming decade, the most successful AI systems may not simply be the fastest or the smartest.
They will be the ones designed with immunity from the beginning.
